What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
As we get older, due to overuse of the muscles in the face, fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear and eventually set in for good known as static lines - ones that are present all the time.
This process can start from your late 20’s and early 30’s due to a a reduction in collagen production and the activeness and overuse of muscles.
Anti-wrinkle treatments work by blocking the nerve signals that allow the muscles to move. By temporarily paralysing this muscle, the muscle is no longer overworked and those lines that were once there become softer and/or disappear.
The effect of anti-wrinkle injections depend on the type of wrinkles that are present.:
For lines that are dynamic which move during expression, these lines will not be present whilst the muscle remains paralysed.
For lines that are static which are there all the time. The appearance of these lines can become softer and create a smoother appearance and whilst this muscle is paralysed, it prevents those lines from getting worse.
Who is suitable?
Anti-wrinkle treatments are suitable for adults over the age of 18 with some patients being treated into their 80’s however not all adults are suitable.
A medical assessment will be done prior to treatment with contra-indications being:
Neuromuscular disorders
Clotting disorders
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Active Infections
Taking immunosuppressants
In some cases we still will be able to treat you, however this will be discussed within a consultation.
We are a clinic who are also happy and confident to say no if we feel that the treatment is not necessary or won’t benefit your facial profile.
We may be able to offer a different treatment in these circumstances.

Most people say it’s painless, with some saying there’s only a slight discomfort.

1 session is required and you will be offered a follow up appointment in two weeks to review the treatment and provide any adjustments needed free of charge.

This is a semi -permanent treatment that lasts on average between 3-6 months depending on the individual.
You will start to notice results from your treatment from 7-10 days as the muscle begins to relax with the final result in 14 days.

Bruising and swelling can be expected, however these will subside within couple of days post treatment.

You can resume daily activities with only a few things that are advised against in the first 24 hours. This is to help aid healing and prevent infections.
This includes: exercise, use of saunas/swimming, consumption of alcohol and wearing make-up.It is recommended to avoid any exposure to extreme heat for two weeks and avoid flying on an aircraft for at least 1 week.
Please book your treatments in advance if going on holiday to ensure time for your treatment to take effect and to have your review. The recommended time for treatment pre-holiday is 4 weeks.
Advanced Anti-Wrinkle treatments can also be used in the lower face area to help lift and define certain areas of the face and reduce heaviness to create a more youthful and tighter appearance.

The Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Process
CONSULTATION
You will receive a consultation prior to your treatment which will include an overview of the treatment process, a full facial assessment and a review of medical history to ensure you are suitable for this treatment.
Together we will discuss your individual treatment goals/concerns and outline a plan on how we will achieve this.
THE APPOINTMENT
At the beginning of the treatment, you will have a facial assessment followed by mapping out and marking the area that is to be treated with a marking pen.
This is then followed by injecting small amounts of product into the target areas.
The appointment will last up to 30 minutes however the injection process can be anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.

AFTERCARE
Aftercare is an important part of your patient journey here at SMG Aesthetics and beauty.
You will be contacted after your appointment to see how you are getting on post treatments and a follow up appointment will be arranged to review your results and assess your treatments and progress with your care. You will also be provided with emergency contact details, if you have any concerns or worries post treatment.
