What is a Dermal Filler?
Dermal filler is a great treatment to help restructure, re-volumise, balance and contour the facial profile.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally produced substance that is found within the connective tissues of the skin. It helps provide the skin with structure, volume and hydration. By using a suitable product of choice from a premium dermal filler range, this natural hyaluronic acid product can be carefully placed to create different clients goals.
As part of the natural ageing process, we lose volume within the face. This starts to happen from your late 20’s and early 30’s and affects how our face was once structured. You may notice your face starting to feel heavy in the lower region and jowl area or sunken in the mid face and nose to mouth region with lines becoming more noticeable.
By injecting hyaluronic acid, this will replace the volume that has been lost and help restructure, define and volumise the targeted areas. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles can be improved and it will ultimately give you a more rejuvenated and youthful look.
Who is suitable?
Dermal filler is suitable for adults over the age of 18 with some patients being treated into their 80’s+ however not all adults are suitable.
A medical assessment will be done prior to treatment with contra-indications being:
Allergies
Clotting disorders
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Diabetes
Active Infections
Taking immunosuppressants
In some cases we still will be able to treat you, however this will be discussed within a consultation.
We are a clinic who are also happy and confident to say no if we feel that the treatment is not necessary or won’t benefit your facial profile.
We may be able to offer a different treatment in these circumstances.

Lidocaine cream is used to numb the area. Some people say it is painless, with others feeling a slight discomfort on the first few injections with it subsiding afterwards.
A cannula can be used to minimise the amount of injections - this is suitable for some treatments and most people say this is painless.

1 session is usually required however the amount of product used is dependent on the client goals and facial structure and this may require between 1 - 4 syringes.
If you have a large amount of volume loss or very deep lines that require treating, this is a factor that is associated with how much filler is required. This will be discussed within your consultation.

You will need to allow 2 weeks for your treatment to heal for your final result however you will see instant results post treatment.
Please bear this in mind when booking your treatment in case you have any important events planned to allow time to heal.
Further treatments can be had in 12-18 months to maintain goals but again, this is based on an individual basis and dependent on how fast your body metabolises the filler.

Bruising and swelling can be expected, however these will subside within couple of days post treatment.

You can resume daily activities with only a few things that are advised against in the first 24 hours. This is to help aid healing and prevent infections.
This includes: exercise, use of saunas/swimming, consumption of alcohol and wearing make-up.
The Dermal Filler Process
CONSULTATION
You will receive a consultation prior to your treatment which will include an overview of the treatment process, a full facial assessment and a review of medical history to ensure you are suitable for this treatment.
Together we will discuss your individual treatment goals/concerns and outline a plan on how we will achieve this.
THE APPOINTMENT
At the beginning of the appointment, I will map out and mark the areas that require treatment.
Numbing cream is used prior to this treatment which minimises pain.
I will then perform a small amount of injections into the targeted areas.
The appointment will last from 45-60 minutes, and the results are instant. You can expect the healing process to be complete in 14 days.

AFTERCARE
Aftercare is an important part of your patient journey here at SMG Aesthetics and beauty.
